Mailchimp pricing by contact volume: 500 to 50,000 contacts
Every Mailchimp contact tier for Essentials, Standard and Premium, with the 50% first-year offer against list price and what each plan caps.
The short answer
Mailchimp prices its plans by the number of contacts you hold, in tiers. On the pricing page, in US dollars, the entry paid plan Essentials is $13 a month at list price for up to 500 contacts, $110 for 5,001 to 10,000 and $385 for 40,001 to 50,000, and Standard is $20, $135 and $450 at the same tiers. Premium starts at $350 a month and is the same across the first five tiers, then rises. The page advertises 50% off for 12 months on Essentials, Standard and Premium, so a new customer pays half of those figures for the first year and the full list price from the second.
The unit is contacts, so the price tracks the size of your audience whatever you send; if you send far more or far less than the plan's cap, a send-based service prices differently, as our Brevo vs Mailchimp comparison shows. This guide gives every tier on the page, which that comparison does not. The figures are list prices from the page, not a total cost, and the page does not state taxes.
Every tier, list price and first-year offer
| Contacts | Essentials | Standard | Standard send cap | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 to 500 | $13 ($6.50) | $20 ($10) | 6,000 | $350 ($175) |
| 501 to 1,500 | $26.50 ($13.25) | $45 ($22.50) | 18,000 | $350 ($175) |
| 1,501 to 2,500 | $45 ($22.50) | $60 ($30) | 30,000 | $350 ($175) |
| 2,501 to 5,000 | $75 ($37.50) | $100 ($50) | 60,000 | $350 ($175) |
| 5,001 to 10,000 | $110 ($55) | $135 ($67.50) | 120,000 | $350 ($175) |
| 10,001 to 15,000 | $180 ($90) | $230 ($115) | 180,000 | $465 ($232.50) |
| 15,001 to 20,000 | $230 ($115) | $285 ($142.50) | 240,000 | $535 ($267.50) |
| 20,001 to 25,000 | $270 ($135) | $310 ($155) | 300,000 | $620 ($310) |
| 25,001 to 30,000 | $300 ($150) | $340 ($170) | 360,000 | $685 ($342.50) |
| 30,001 to 40,000 | $340 ($170) | $410 ($205) | 480,000 | $750 ($375) |
| 40,001 to 50,000 | $385 ($192.50) | $450 ($225) | 600,000 | $815 ($407.50) |
The page says Essentials is not available above 50,000 contacts (it shows a contact-limit message), and it shows Standard and Premium at higher tiers that this guide does not cover. Standard's monthly send cap is twelve times the top of the contact tier; Premium's is fifteen times (at the 50,001 to 75,000 tier the page lists 1,125,000 for Premium and 900,000 for Standard). The Free plan applies to small lists: the page says "Under 250 contacts? It's free" and also refers to a basic Free plan for fewer than 500 contacts, so check the current limit. Our dated rows are on the Mailchimp page.
What a thousand contacts costs as the list grows
| Top of tier | Standard list price | Per thousand contacts |
|---|---|---|
| 1,500 | $45 | $30.00 |
| 2,500 | $60 | $24.00 |
| 5,000 | $100 | $20.00 |
| 10,000 | $135 | $13.50 |
| 15,000 | $230 | $15.33 |
| 20,000 | $285 | $14.25 |
| 25,000 | $310 | $12.40 |
| 30,000 | $340 | $11.33 |
| 40,000 | $410 | $10.25 |
| 50,000 | $450 | $9.00 |
The price per thousand falls from $30 to $9, but not smoothly: moving from the 5,001 to 10,000 tier to the 10,001 to 15,000 tier raises the cost per thousand at the top of the tier from $13.50 to $15.33 because the list price jumps from $135 to $230. The figures divide the list price by the top of each tier, which is the cheapest a full tier can be; a list at the bottom of a tier pays more per contact.
Two years, offer then list
| Contact tier | Plan | First 12 months at the offer | Second 12 months at list | Two years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2,501 to 5,000 | Essentials | $450 | $900 | $1,350 |
| 2,501 to 5,000 | Standard | $600 | $1,200 | $1,800 |
| 5,001 to 10,000 | Essentials | $660 | $1,320 | $1,980 |
| 5,001 to 10,000 | Standard | $810 | $1,620 | $2,430 |
| 20,001 to 25,000 | Essentials | $1,620 | $3,240 | $4,860 |
| 20,001 to 25,000 | Standard | $1,860 | $3,720 | $5,580 |
The second year costs exactly double the first on every row, because the offer is 50% off the list price for 12 months. The page says the offer applies even if you change plan and that you can downgrade to Free; the terms of the introductory offer are in the Mailchimp Terms of Use cited below, and the page does not say what happens to the offer if you grow into a higher tier, so we do not state it. Budget the second year at the list price.
What the three plans differ on, besides price
| Plan | Users | Audiences | Monthly send cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials | 3 seats | 3 audiences | not shown in our read |
| Standard | 5 seats | 5 audiences | 12 times the tier top |
| Premium | Unlimited | Unlimited | 15 times the tier top |
