Managed WordPress hosting for a small business site

Six providers read from their own pricing and policy pages: what the headline price leaves out, and which kind of hosting fits which site.

By Nikita LatyshevPublished Updated Prices and specs update from our catalogue

This guide is for a small company choosing hosting for a business website, a WordPress site or a light WooCommerce shop, without wanting to run servers itself. We read each provider's own pricing, plan and policy pages on 29 October 2026 and recorded what they state. We did not test speed, uptime, support or migrations, and we have no customer reviews to report.

Three different things are sold as "WordPress hosting"

  • WordPress-specific managed platforms. Kinsta and WP Engine sell plans built around WordPress and sized by visits, bandwidth or storage. Backups and caching are part of the service. Their entry prices are the higher ones of the six.
  • Shared-hosting-style WordPress plans. SiteGround, Hostinger and Bluehost sell WordPress plans whose lowest price is tied to a prepaid term (12 months at SiteGround, 48 months at Hostinger, 36 months at Bluehost) and renews at a higher rate.
  • A managed cloud server. Cloudways runs your sites on a cloud server at DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, AWS or Google Cloud that you choose and size yourself. It manages the server; it is not a plan with a visit allowance.

A self-administered VPS is a different purchase: you maintain the operating system, updates and security yourself. It is not covered on this page.

Seven things to check before you pay

  • The renewal price, not the first-term price. Find what the same plan costs when the promotional term ends.
  • The term you must prepay. The lowest monthly price usually requires paying many months upfront.
  • How the plan is sized. Visits, bandwidth, storage or server RAM: each provider uses a different unit, so compare against your own numbers.
  • What happens at the limit. Some providers keep the site online and bill overages; others do not state the rate.
  • Backups and staging. Check how often backups run and whether a staging copy is included on the plan you would buy.
  • Refund conditions. A money-back guarantee can exclude monthly terms, renewals or add-ons.
  • Your own numbers. Monthly visits, number of sites, storage, and whether you run WooCommerce.

How we verify

Which kind fits which site

A brochure site with modest traffic and a tight budget. The shared-style plans (SiteGround, Hostinger, Bluehost) cost the least, provided you compare the renewal rate and can commit to a long prepaid term.

A site where WordPress is the business: a shop, memberships or traffic spikes. The WordPress-specific platforms (Kinsta, WP Engine) include more of the operational work in the plan and are priced accordingly.

A team that wants to size the server itself. Cloudways fits if you are willing to learn its console and to size for your own peaks.

This is our reading of what the providers state, not a test result.

Our take

Our take

No single provider is best for every small site. The useful comparison is the price you will pay in the second term and the terms behind it. If you can accept a long prepaid term, the shared-style plans cost the least even after renewal; if you want the operations handled and can pay more each month, Kinsta and WP Engine do that; Cloudways suits teams that want to size the server themselves. We have not tested performance, uptime or support for any of them.
