Squarespace vs Wix: online selling, plans and exports compared
How Squarespace and Wix compare on selling online, plan structure and what you can export if you leave.
Squarespace and Wix both let a small business build and run a website without writing code, but they approach it differently. Wix leans toward breadth: a wide set of selling channels, payment providers and apps. Squarespace leans toward a simpler plan ladder, where the plan you pick sets the platform's own fee on online-store sales. This page compares them on what the vendors publish: plans, selling tools, and how easily you can take your content with you if you leave. Where a vendor does not publish a figure, we say so instead of guessing. In the comparison table, the Online selling row describes each vendor's entry paid plan: on Wix, selling starts with the Core plan.

Leaving later: what each platform lets you export
Squarespace. The WordPress-format (XML) export covers layout pages and one blog page with its posts, plus text and image blocks. It does not include other page types (for example cover, index, info, calendar, portfolio and store pages), product blocks, drafts, style settings or custom CSS. The site must be published and public, and a trial site cannot be exported.
Wix. Wix states that blog posts cannot currently be exported to other platforms. Store products can be exported to a CSV file with their data, up to 5,000 rows per file; digital products cannot be exported.
Practical reading: neither platform is built for a one-click move. If you expect to leave, keep your own copy of text and images and plan to rebuild products and blog content on the new platform.

Our take
Pick Wix if you want many selling channels and payment options and can accept that its blog posts do not export. Pick Squarespace if you want a plan ladder where the platform's own store fee depends on the plan, and you have checked what its export leaves out. The Wix plans page does not state platform transaction fees or traffic limits, so check Wix's current terms before you buy.
